Obstacles in the way of creating blogs for kids under 13.

WordPress states specifically, for example, that children under 13 should not use their service. Meanwhile, Blogger also says that they do not want children under 13 to use their sites. They can with parental supervision, of course. Since these are two of the largest and most popular blogging tools available. However, don’t be concerned, there are blogs out there, and they are specifically for the younger children.

One of the best blogs for kids under 13 out there (in addition to Kids Learn To Blog, of course), although it is primarily for teachers, is KidBlog. This particular site allows you to set up a blog for a number of young people, and it is totally monitored and safe. Even though it is primarily for educators to use, it still allows you to get involved with work at your child’s school, and then encourages your child to set up a blog online through this gateway. We think it is quite probably the safest online blogging gateway for young children yet, and one of the best blogs for kids under 13. The best thing about this particular site is that it allows for totally safe email and complete connectivity. You don’t feel that the site is at any point unsafe or misleading. The online virtual community is vast, and there is always something happening on the site. It is truly international too. A a blog for kids under 13, we recommend that children who are leaning towards 13 use it, simply due to the sheer complexity of options available on it.

Livejournal offers a similar service. This is a very established service that has, over the years, built up a nice young following. This is something that you will have to be involved in as regards supervision when your child starts up the blog. It is a great platform because, unlike Blogger and WordPress, you have a younger demographic, and therefore it is more easily matched to your child’s needs to find appropriate blogs for kids under 13.

The best thing you can do is ensure that you have set up complex passwords that no one could ever have a hope of copying and using with your child’s account.

Also, ensure that you are sitting with your child when they set up their account. This is absolutely vital if you are to be satisfied they are going to be safe online. We recommend that you have your child blogging in the same room as you when they are blogging.
